The best things to do in and around Zandvoort
There is something for everyone’s liking in Zandvoort and surroundings. Whether you are looking for an adventurous day, some relaxation or want to taste what Haarlem has to offer; it’s all possible in this versatile coastal town.
Zandvoort beach and water sports
For a day of sun, sea and sand, visit Zandvoort or the neighbouring town Bloemendaal aan Zee. Here you can spend a lovely day sunbathing on the beautiful beaches or practising various water sports. There is a wide choice of beach pavilions and beach bars to enjoy a snack and a drink. Some beach bars organise fun (and often well-attended) parties in summer. Please note that tickets are often required. You will find these beach parties in Bloemendaal aan Zee. On Zandvoort beach, you will find many cosy pavilions and there are several surf schools where you can learn to surf.

Noordvoort beach reserve
Want to get away from all the hustle and bustle and experience what a beach looks like when nature gets the upper hand? Then visit beach reserve Noordvoort, a unique nature reserve between Zandvoort and Noordwijk. Wooden poles on the beach at beach post 70 mark this special ‘quiet zone’ with three kilometres of beach where nature has priority. Here you walk on the outermost row of dunes with a view on the beach. The path was created to give seals and birds their own space on the beach. You might even see them from the lookout points!
Adrenaline on the race track
For racing enthusiasts, the Circuit of Zandvoort which hosts the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix event, is just across Beachhouse Hotel! But other events, such as sports events or special old-timer races, are also organised here. When it’s raining and a long walk on the beach is out of the question, you go for a virtual race at Racesquare Circuit Zandvoort! The simulators are designed to convey the F1 experience as realistically as possible.

Culture, food and shopping in Haarlem
For a day of culture, good food and shopping, visit the nearby city of Haarlem. In the beautiful historic centre, you will find the most diverse shops, restaurants, cafés and museums. Also typical for Haarlem? Take a walk along the ‘Hofjes’ (almshouses)! The almshouses consist of small houses adjacent to a garden-like courtyard. Rich benefactors had these hofjes, often with richly decorated façades with coats of arms, built for the poor, single women and widows as early as the 14th century.
Wellness in the dunes
For a day of relaxation and wellness, visit Sauna Ridderrode in the dunes of Santpoort. Opposite an old castle ruin, you will find this beautiful and small-scale sauna. Here you can enjoy various saunas, a steam room, herbal temple and various baths. In cooperation with Sauna Ridderrode, Beachhouse Hotel has created a Wellness Special where you can enjoy a wonderful day of sauna combined with a stay at the beach.
Game spotting
No fewer than two large nature reserves can be found in and around Zandvoort. If you enjoy spotting wildlife and prefer to go off the beaten track, you will appreciate the Amsterdam Waterleidingduinen. No cyclists are allowed here either, which is not surprising as you almost trip over the deer here sometimes 😉
Secondly, there is the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Here you can walk, cycle and recreate in the dunes! You can swim in dune lake ‘t Wed. This is therefore a popular place to go with kids! Special and especially large animals can also be spotted here, such as Konik horses, Scottish Highlanders and even wisents (the European bison). Want to discover the dunes and surroundings on the something with Beachhouse Hotel as a base? Then check out the Explore Nature Special and head out!
